Multiply

Studying & living the Book of Acts together.

Paul Before Felix

Ben Collins | Acts 24:1–27 | 11/19/2017

Jesus is not only the risen & reigning King over all peoples everywhere, but also over all who reign over all peoples everywhere. He is the King of kings, the Governor of governors, the Lord of lords. At long last, Paul gets his first opportunity to carry the name of Jesus before a 'king', governor Felix through his trial. This text calls us to expect slander, cheerfully respond, and patiently bear witness to our Risen Savior.

A Plot to Kill Paul

Tim Theule | Acts 23:11-35 | 11/12/2017

We continue our Multiply study of the book of Acts with a look at Acts 23:11-35 where a plot to kill Paul is discovered and thwarted.   Here we see God's promise and providence working together to accomplish God's purpose.

Paul's Defense before the Jews

Tim Theule | Acts 22:23-23:11 | 10/29/2017

We continue our 'Multiply' series in the book of Acts with a look at Paul's testimony before the Jews in Acts 22:23 - 23:11.

Paul's Final Arrest

Tim Theule | Acts 21:39-22:22 | 10/22/2017

Each one of us has a story.  When we hear and trust God's Story, the Gospel, our story starts to be shaped by His story.  Learning to tell our own Gospel story is THE single best way to share the Gospel with a not-yet-Christian.  In Acts 22:1-21, the Apostle Paul gives us a great example and model for how to tell our own Gospel story.

Ready To Die

Tim Theule | Acts 21:1-26 | 10/15/2017

If you knew that you would be arrested if you went to a certain place, would you still go?  This is the situation Paul faces in Acts 21:1-26 as we continue our  MULTIPLY study of the book of Acts.

Charge to the Ephesian Elders

Tim Theule | Acts 20:7-12, 17-38 | 10/8/2017

Acts 20 contains Paul's heartfelt charge to the elders in the church at Ephesus and serves as a timeless enduring charge for every local church and its leadership.

Gospel Multiplication in Ephesus

Tim Theule | Acts 19:1-26 | 10/1/2017

As we seek to learn all we can about how the first followers of Jesus multiplied the message of Jesus across the Roman Empire of the first century, here we glean from Paul's strategic 3-year outreach in Ephesus.

I Have Many in This City

Tim Theule | Acts 18:1-22 | 9/10/2017

In this message, we return to our Multiply series in the book of Acts to learn all we can about reaching out with the Gospel from Paul's long stay in the strategic city of Corinth.

God is Not Far from Each of Us

Tim Theule | Acts 17:22-34 | 8/27/2017

How can we thoughtfully engage with the Gospel those who are not yet Christians around our community?  We continue our Multiply! study of the book of Acts with a look at Paul's message at the Areopagus in Athens.   It's a powerful model for sharing our faith in our own day and generation.

A City Full of Idols

Ben Collins | Acts 17:15–23 | 8/20/2017

The Gospel of Jesus Christ was a new, strange and largely misunderstood message to Athenian ears. Paul worked hard to contextualize or translate the Gospel into understandable terms for the Athenians and Luke notes these details for our instruction today as we seek to translate the Gospel into our culture.

Gospel Faithfulness & Perseverance

Tim Theule | Acts 17:1-15 | 8/13/2017

Acts 17:1-15 records the next step on Paul's second missionary journey and is the next step on our Multiply! journey through the book of Acts.  It reminds us of several ongoing challenges we face as we seek to be faithful to Jesus' multiply mission.

Suffering and Salvation in Philippi

Nick Shorts | Acts 16:16-40 | 7/30/2017

Paul and Silas show us what it looks like to depend on the Lord when facing trials. We see dependence comes from brokenness which stems from our very clear need for a Savior.

The Gospel to Europe

Ben Collins | Acts 16:1-15 | 7/23/2017

The Gospel is on its way to Europe through Paul, Silas, and Timothy. As it travels, we learn how the Gospel mission is unique for everyone, mysterious and fruitful.

God's Providence Through Human Conflict

Miles Nelson | Acts 15:36-41 | 7/16/2017

As we continue our Multiply series in the book of Acts we come to the pivotal disagreement between Paul and Barnabas. Both men disagreed on how to move forward but God worked through their conflict and multiplied the gospel.

The Jerusalem Council

Tim Theule | Acts 15:1-35 | 7/9/2017

We continue our MULTIPLY study of the book of Acts with a look at Acts 15:1-35.  The Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 serves as the centerpiece of the book of Acts and a watershed moment for the Early Church as the Gospel is saved from corruption and the church is saved from fragmentation.

When the Gospel is Spoken...

Ken Peet | Acts 14:8-28 | 6/25/2017

As we continue our Multiply series through Acts, we see Paul and Barnabas continuing and completing their missionary trip, taking the Gospel for the very first time to the Gentiles!  In chapter 14 we will see five outcomes that take place as they finish off their journey across Galatia.

Salvation to the Ends of the Earth

Ben Collins | Acts 13:44-14:7 | 6/18/2017

Our Multiply series continues as we watch the Gospel break through into Antioch of Pisidia and Iconium, reaching not only Jews but also the Gentiles! God's Gospel is reaching the ends of the earth in a new, focused, didactic and glorious way.

Jesus, God's Promised Savior

Tim Theule | Acts 13:16b-41 | 6/11/2017

We continue our Multiply study with a look at Acts 13:13-41 where we see the first of Paul's three Gospel presentations in the book of Acts.  While certain elements are common in each Gospel presentation, each presentation is also tailored for a specific audience.  In this first instance, Paul is sharing with religious Jews.

To the End of the Earth it Begins

Tim Theule | Acts 13:1-12 | 5/28/2017

As we continue our Multiply! study of the book of Acts, in Acts 13 we see how the Gospel begins to multiply to 'the end of the earth' in fulfillment of Jesus' promise and command back in Acts 1:8.  It's another instructive and relevant turning point in the book of Acts.

The Glory of the King

Ben Collins | Acts 12:20–25 | 5/21/2017

Herod the King has killed James and imprisoned Peter. What will become of the Gospel? Will it be muted or will it miraculously multiply? In this dramatic chapter we see that God will be glorified by advancing his Gospel and that all who oppose his Gospel, seeking their own glory, will ultimately fail.

The Struggle to Understand Grace

Tim Theule | Acts 11:1-18 | 5/14/2017

It's easy to idealize the early church, but Acts 11 shatters all our idealism as we see Jewish Christians struggling to understand the true nature of the Gospel and salvation by sheer grace.  The struggle will continue throughout the book of Acts. Indeed, the struggle to understand salvation by sheer grace is ongoing for all of us

Peter's Paradigm Shift

Tim Theule | Acts 10:23b-48 | 5/7/2017

This message continues to explore the encounter between Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10, as the Gospel crosses the Jewish cultural boundary and begins to multiply among the Gentiles.

Multiplying by Sending

Tim Theule | Acts 11:17-26, 13:1-3 | 4/30/2017

We are living the book of Acts! That's the reminder for Grace Central Coast in this message as we connect the sending of Paul & Barnabas in Acts 13 to our sending of Pastor Jeff Jennings to serve as the Lead Pastor of Bethany Church in Canby, Oregon.

Peter's Peculiar Vision

Tim Theule | Acts 9:32-10:23 | 4/23/2017

As we continue our MULTIPLY study of the book of Acts, we’ll see that after an absence of three chapters, the Apostle Peter takes the stage again to serve as a vital link to the emerging Gospel outreach to the Gentiles.

The Growth of a New Disciple

Tim Theule | Acts 9:19-31 | 4/9/2017

While Saul's conversion was dramatic and almost immediate, his growth in grace and ministry was not.   The ingredients of Saul's growth are instructive for us at Grace Central Coast as we seek to make disciples who make disciples among our staff, adults, youth and kids.

An Unexpected Convert

Tim Theule | Acts 9:1-20 | 4/2/2017

The conversion of Saul just might be the most famous conversion in history.  It's the next episode in our Multiply! study of the book of Acts and significant in so many practical ways.

The Gospel to Africa

Tim Theule | Acts 8:26-40 | 3/26/2017

In Acts 8:26-30, the Gospel continues to move beyond Jerusalem and toward the 'ends of the earth' in fulfillment of Jesus' command in Acts 1:8.  Through a most surprising encounter, a disciple named Philip meets an Ethiopian eunuch and as a result the Gospel spreads to Africa.

The Gospel Reaches Judea & Samaria

Ben Collins | Acts 8:1-8 | 3/19/2017

As Stephen's life comes to a close and Saul's persecution of Jesus's followers shifts into high gear, we wonder, 'What will happen to the Church?' In Acts 8 we find a surprising answer; the Church isn't snuffed out, instead it is sent out to transform and bring joy to Judea and Samaria through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Message of Stephen

Tim Theule | Acts 6:12-7:58 | 3/12/2017

In this message we look at the sermon of Stephen, the longest message recorded for us in the book of Acts.  Stephen's sermon is an answer to the accusation that he been speaking words against the temple and the law.

The Man & Martyr Stephen

Tim Theule | Acts 6:8-7:1, 7:54-8:4 | 3/5/2017

Here we meet Stephen, the first martyr of the Christian church.  He's a disciple of Jesus who gives himself for the mission of Jesus.  What was he like and how was he used by God in life and death?  We explore these questions in this next message of our Multiply! study of the book of Acts.

Growing Pains

Tim Theule | Acts 6:1-7 | 2/26/2017

Are you a 'church idealist'?  A 'church pessimist'?  Or a 'church realist'?  Acts 6:1-7 reminds us that the church has been flawed, broken and imperfect from the very beginning.  Here we discover realities that are true of early church, our church and every local church as we continue our 'Multiply!' study of the book of Acts.

Speak all the Words of this Life

Tim Theule | Acts 5:12-42 | 2/19/2017

As we continue our 'Multiply' study of the book of Acts, we see in Acts 5:12-17 a great reminder of what the Gospel is, which also informs why we should share it.

Signs and Wonders in the Early Church . . . and Today

Tim Theule | Acts 5:12-21a | 2/5/2017

Signs and wonders are all over the book of Acts.  What are we to make of these phenomena?  How are we to understand signs and wonders.  As we continue our 'Multiply' study of the book of Acts, we look 'head on' at this intriguing issue.

What Happened When the Early Church Prayed

Tim Theule | Acts 10:1-22 | 1/22/2017

The last in our mini series on prayer throughout the book of Acts, this message looks at the many ways God speaks, shows up and acts in response to the prayers of His people.  May the testimony of the book of Acts motivate us to devoted, fervent, passionate praying in 2017!

When the Early Church Prayed

Tim Theule | Acts 14:21-23, Acts 16:23-26, Acts 20:17-19, Acts 20:36-38, Acts 21:4-6 | 1/15/2017

In this message, we continue our study of prayer in the book of Acts, a mini series within our larger Acts series.  Having previously looked at HOW the Early Church prayed, here we explore WHEN the Early Church prayed.

How the Early Church Prayed

Tim Theule | Acts 1:14, Acts 2:42, Acts 4:31, Acts 6:3-4, Acts 13:1-3 | 1/1/2017

On this first Sunday of 2017, as we jump back into our series in Acts, we take a look at the priority of prayer in the early church as a jumpstart for our own praying individually and corporately.

Discipline in the Church

Tim Theule | Acts 4:32-5:16 | 11/20/2016

The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 is troubling to contemporary audiences.  Why is it here and what are God's people in all ages intended to learn from it?

Missional Praying

Tim Theule | Acts 4:18-31 | 11/13/2016

What is our response when opposition/suffering/resistance arises to our faith and the Gospel?  In the second half of Acts 4, we see the surprising and unexpected way the Early Church responded to the first opposition to the Gospel.

We Cannot But Speak

Tim Theule | Acts 4:1-22 | 11/6/2016

As we look at Acts 4:1-22, we see 4 characteristics of the early church that we hope and pray and desire to be true of Grace Central Coast.

Undeniable Miracle, Messiah & Mission

Ben Collins | Acts 3:1–26 | 10/30/2016

An undeniable miracle done in Jesus' name creates the context for the call for repentance and faith that Jesus is truly God's promised Messiah and that he is alive and well and still working blotting out sin and healing. The Jewish crowds as well as us today are called to repentance and faith and to fulfill our call to be a blessing to all the families of the earth in Jesus' name.

The New Testament Church is Born!

Jeff Jennings | Acts 2:22-47 | 10/23/2016

The explanation of Pentecost is truly about the Person of Jesus Christ. Peter makes this very clear in his first New Covenant sermon tying the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to the sovereign hand of God the Father and by pointing to the universal need for repentance and faith brought about on that day by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What is Pentecost?

Tim Theule | Acts 2:1-21 | 10/16/2016

We often think of the redemptive work of Jesus as His 'life, death and resurrection', but really the work of Jesus is His 'life, death, resurrection, ascension and giving of the Spirit.'  In this message, we tackle Acts 2:1-21 and ask the question together, 'What is Pentecost?'

Waiting for the Spirit

Tim Theule | Acts 1:1-26 | 10/9/2016

As we jump into the text of Acts 1, we look at 3 facts about the author of Acts, 4 events that happen in Acts 1, and 2 errors made by the first followers of Jesus that can keep us from the MULTIPLY mission that Jesus has given us.

Multiply: How It Happens in the Early Church and in Our Church

Tim Theule | Acts 2:36-47 | 10/2/2016

By way of introduction and challenge, as we kick off our new MULTIPLY series in the book Acts and a new season here at Grace Central Coast, this message provides a 'fly over' of the early chapters of Acts to see how the early church multiplied and how our church can too.

Multiply - GraceSLO Fall Kick Off 2016

Tim Theule | Acts 1:1-11 | 9/25/2016

MULTIPLY!  It's our Jesus-given mission. It explains how we exist, why we exist and everything we do as a church.  Today as we kick off the fall, we see the origin of our multiply mission as a launch to our study of the book of Acts.
